Inexpensive way to beautify dirt patches in backyard

I’m putting my home on the market and with 2 German Shepherds I have two large areas in the backyard where they’ve run the grass down to dirt. I can’t put sod down and reseeding will take too long. Any suggestions? Each area is approximately 5x8.

We have four dogs, one is part shepherd and the other full blood shepherd. We have almost no grass in half of our back yard thanks to them. We were considering putting down pavers on the main part they wore down. Perhaps you could make small patio type areas with paths and put some flowers in pots on them, that way the dogs won't run over the plantings.

You could try, depending upon where these spots are located in the yard, to place a retaining "wall" just high enough to hold some stones or rubber mulch, then place a bench or swing or small bistro set in the center. You could also plant some moss as ground cover and flowers. Section the area off as a garden. You could also use boxes to elevate the "garden" area. Again these ideas would depend on positioning and how they would look in the yard as a whole.

You're welcome! I have dogs myself and I know how hard it can be to hide their "yard work". I hope my suggestions work for your situation or you can find a way to beautify your yard before putting the house up for sale.

You could do a picnic table sitting area. Add a table cloth and fresh flowers on days you show the house and it could just be the perfect selling point.

Mark off and cut the area into a square or circle shape to make it look more like you planned it :) then add a few bags of pea gravel or mulch and make an outdoor seating area. Add a few chairs and inexpensive table or a small fire pit. Try to make it look intentional, like you wanted to remove the grass.
