Hi Ginny, I would try to take off the stick on tiles. It can be as easy as using a hairdryer to loosen up the glue. If you have vinyl tiles, say over drywall, here's a video to show you how to remove: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhWJIX-KwQ0

What ever you decide, have fun!
You could go over it with something like the tin ceiling tiles... if you decide to use more tile... you would be better off to remove the stick on ones, replace dry wall with cement board/ tile backer and proceed from there
