Weeds growing everywhere

On the side of my house used to be pachysandra growing nicely. Now after the winter in Cleveland Ohio there are weeds growing in along with Packasandra . I recently just replanted some more. How do I kill the weeds and not the packandra I planted?

Your best bet may be to pull the weeds by hand to avoid damage to the newly planted pachysandra. The older plants will pop back as the soil warms, but the long cold winter allowed the seeds of weeds that germinate under cooler conditions to gain a foot hold early on. I'd pull what you are able to by hand, top with Preen and then some fresh mulch. As you see new weeds, try to keep on top of pulling them.

Landscaper recommended wearing gloves and grasping the weed in between your fingers and spray weed killer closely to the top of the weed that is in your hand to keep from spraying the plants. Especially if it was a weed with long roots that come back if you can't pull them all out. Time consuming, but he said it works.

You definitely have some Lily of the Valley growing in that top picture. Those are sweet smelling little flowers, but they spread and are a little invasive. Weeds in Ohio = torture. I just came in from pulling thistle and some other weed that sprays seeds everywhere.

I understand what you're all experiencing, I have thistles in my rose bed. I tried prying them up with no success. I'm afraid to use spray because they are too close to the rose bushes. Any suggestions?

Its very frustrating . I had just planted new pachysandra and you see the weeds instead of my pachysandra .

You're welcome @Tess. I love pachysandra too, and it's not exactly the speediest grower here in NE Ohio. @Andrea C I know there is a product called Caseron but only gets applied in the late winter. Other than that, I just keep pulling them out but I'm losing that battle:(

So many weeds are edible,so before destroying them find out if they are. Herbicides are so harmful to Mother Earth be very careful what you use. I use white vinegar or boiling water.

Anyone who loves pachysandra needs patience and a good set of knee pads. I have planted thousands of slips to edge my lawn, house and flower beds and cover a small slope in my yard. Pull the weeds by hand and add lots of mulch. Eventually (years) the area will "knit" together. I have found that I still have to weed though. Good luck.
