they need sprayed with a clear coat varnish front back, up side and down side. i believe you can get storage covers for them that will keep the rain off.
Spray them with varnish in a spray can. Make sure to do the underside, too.
Spray pint with infusion paint. For plastic
Poly can protect true wicker furniture from the elements. Make sure the feet are covered to prevent water damage.
Use marine spar varnish or urethane.

I like the Helmsman spray. Several light coats will get you a smooth finish.
