White vinegar sprayed directly to the root works for me. Or smother it out with layers of newspaper and mulch

Yes, white vinegar with a couple of drops of blue dawn In spay bottle works well.
Keep in mind that anything that kills is, by definition, toxic. Many recommend various vinegar solutions. It will kill the foliage but takes several tries to kill most weeds. Any that you allow to touch plants that you want will do the same to them.
