I would like my patio to be cool and welcoming. Maybe sheer curtains to block the west Kansas sun. Mist and fans? Fun colors and comfortable chairs

The sheer curtains would definitely make it feel more like a room. Also fans and misters will be amust in Kansas in the Summer Time! I see you already have some plants and they are always cheerful. Have fun with it with color, etc.

You have some good ideas already! If you can plant trees or bushes, their cooling effect goes a little beyond just the shade. Maybe hang some planters while you wait for them to grow. You could try arranging the furniture into small groupings.

You’ve plenty of decorating advice. I would love to see you paint your window and door trim(only) the same color as the base of your house. I think it would be striking and help emphasize the height of your space, and make it all look larger.

Re chairs, get or make 6” or so diameter “tube” pillows in that gorgeous blue for your grey chairs. Maybe paint blue boards for your plant shelf as well.

Bite the bullet and get yourself a patio (wet and outdoor safe) ceiling fan. It looks like you could even use about 40” ceiling hugger.

I, personally, would have an electrician install it, partly because of your corrugated ceiling. At least call for a couple of estimates and make careful notes about method they will use.

Get a remote so you can turn it on in the heat before going outside. I suggest large because it really matters in a large space, including discouraging mosquitos who can’t handle wind. All my fans were purchased online. Great selection and prices.

    Have fun.

Maybe you could screen in the porch and then put wood around it so its like a room but having a screen door to the backyard. Then add a bed and stuff to make a room and. You have your own DIY room!!

I like all of the above ideas, I would also use wicker furniture & use a lot of splashy color cordidated shower curtains to make cushions, pillows, wall hangings ( the directions found on this site ) and draperies. Bring in some plants and enjoy ! Would love to see your finished room !

Use tension rods to hang your curtains from, choose synthetic fibers like polyester or nylon to keep them dry and stain free. A misting system, for about 40 feet can be easily installed for about $70. I 'd also recommend keeping the color theme you want going with putting plants into colorful planters, just slip them in the new containers still in their current pots. Top with white, black, tan etc., gravel to hide pot rims.

It looks like you have a very nice large roomy porch. I would not use curtains, but rather plant something or put lattice up on that side. You need something substantial looking. We had the same problem with the western sun and when we planted a weeping birch, and also a rhododendron, that problem was solved. Since there is only on picture it is kind of hard to tell about the furniture placement. It seems you have room for at least two groupings. The chairs should be aligned so people sitting on them can see each other, maybe not so much the street.
