I grow a lot of herbs year round and give a lot away during the height of the season. I also pick and dry as the plants produce. I do it the simple old fashioned way, between layers of cheesecloth or organic paper towels. Then store in airtight containers for future use. I also box up and make gift baskets with them.
I have made air drying racks using plastic canvas and large embroidery hoops... glue the plastic canvas onto the outside edges of 10 inch to 12 inch hoops using a food safe glue like Elmer's or Aleene's Tacky glue.... put the herbs inside and hang or set on cake racks for air circulation.... Shake or flip daily ... so everything dries evenly and completely.
We have a dehydrator... but I find it noisy and it has to run a long time to do the job... the air here in AZ is naturally dry (except during monsoons)
Hi Brenda. I air dry mine. I tie a twist tie to the stems and hang them upside down in my kitchen window.
