I have a brick wall in my home and it's so dark and dated. What's an easy thing I can do to make it look better and lighter?

Hi Lauren first thing that came to my mind was a white wash. You mix half white acrylic paint and half water and just brush it on. It will lighten it up without losing the character of the brick.
You can paint it. There are lots of tutorials on fireplaces which shows how to paint a brick wall. There is also a brick cleaner that Home depot sells. Plus there are sealers that will just brighten the area.
You can use a Power Washer to blast away the dirt.
