I have these amazing how ceilings, but, didn't want to pay the price for custom wrought iron... and since the ceilings are so high, no one would see them anyway, so, I hacked my way to an amazing look!

To finish the conduit pipe to look like high end curtain rods, I took a lamp finial and screwed it into a wooden dowel, with a double thread screw. The dowel fits inside of my conduit pipe. If the dowel doesn't fit, you can wrap it with masking tape.
See how nicely it fits inside the pipe?
Looks high end. The Finials are the most expensive part at $5 each. The Conduit pipe was sprayed with Rustoleum Black paint that I had on hand.
There is a funky tool that you can use to bend conduit pipe, this helps maintain the shape of the pipe and keeps one from kinking the pipe.
Finished bay window. 10' conduit pipe, hardware to hang the curtains, 2 lamp finials and a wooden dowel. Fabric was on clearance.
This window was a curved bay window and the curve was much harder to get with conduit pipe... so, I used PVC pipe. I needed 13 feet, and the 1/2" pvc came in 10' lengths, so, I centered the 10' pipe, and then cut wooden dowels and glued them inside the ends and then added 18" of pipe to each wooden dowel, with glue... this gave me the 13' I needed. Everything was spray painted. I did add extra curtain rod supports, full panels of fabric were heavy and the place where the pipes were joined needed additional support.
This shows you that the PVC pipe here is straighter and doesn't follow the curve of the wall as well... because this is where the joint is.
Suggested materials:
  • Conduit pipe, pvc pipe, wooden dowel, lamp final   (home depot)
  • Double thread screw

I have 2 inexpensive finials from IKEA left over from another project now I can use them here for the new PVC pipe curtain rod!

Again GREAT idea for the finial!

I had some wide black duct tape with a nice shine, finish, I used that instead of paint on the 11 foot PVC pipe/curtain rod and I did not need to crack open a new costly can of Rustoleum spray paint - my IKEA finials had already been black
