Is It possible to paint the inside of old bathtub.

It's almost worn down to the metal in places.it s probably about 50 years old

My suggestion is not to "paint" but to have professionally reglazed. The reason it is worn down is due to years and years of using harsh scrubbing with chemicals. If you have professionally reglazed, the tub could be beautiful for another 50 years.
Agree with Naomie. If your bathtub is worn down to this extent, painting it is only going to be a like a bandaid that comes off when you next run the water.
IF you love the tub, then I would pay to have it reglazed.
call a tub and sink re finisher.
