We have taken an avacado pit and put it in water and now its grown a root. We would like to plant it but we dont know if we should plant it in a container and then outside when it gets bigger. Also do you need more than one tree like they say you do for apples and other fruit trees?

Thank you for your help, Tammy V.

No, sadly an Avacado tree can not take freezing weather.

Avacado will not survive outside in you area. You can keep it as a house plant

It's a houseplant now in NH. It wont survive planted outside, but will love moving outdoors for the summer. They're a little tempermental for water- dont let it dry out too much or it will drop leaves. You will need at least 2 for fruit.

Mine have only gotten 3ft max. If it starts getting leggy, or you want it to branch out, pinch the top off.

You could also have more than one in a pot if you like. I have one pot with 3 stalks that I have braided together. It looks cool, and makes a nice sturdy trunk.

I currently have 6 growing in my house. I heard it takes 10 years to produce and then I just heard you have to have a female and male? I don't know about the whole female and male part. I do have a question....I have one and its really tall but the leafs keep falling off but it keeps growing. If i pinch it back can I pinch it down about 5 inches and it will be fine?
