I never heard of that before. Where is the mildew/mold at. I would first try bleach water to clean it good and to help with staining, and then coat with full strength vinegar to kill the spores. Always check an inconspicuous spot and make sure the bleach water or the vinegar will not change the color.

a solution of half vinegar half water works well and is less expensive than the ascorbic acid its vitamin c tabs.
