What can I use to get rid of fire ants?

We just bought a puppy and when I took her out in the middle of the night to potty, brought her back to our bed we were all bitten up from fire ants!
Needless to say we got up quickly and tore all the bedding off. Lol probably not a good idea to sleep with puppy but couldn't resist!
I need something that is pet friendly!

Fire ants are dangerous just imagine if you hadn't realized your puppy was covered in fire ants !!!
Hot water spray: Hot water is known to kill ants fast when poured on an ant hill. When extremely hot, the water is so lethal that it can eliminate the whole colony in your backyard. Soap Spray: liquid dish detergent can be mixed with water to form a potent spray safe enough to protect your pet and kill ants in a mound.
I hate these things! I hope you and the puppy are okay! I've read that pouring vinegar and baking soda into the ant's nest hole repeatedly (over a few days) combined with using commercial baits or spraying other ants outside of the mounds will help by killing the queen.
My dad used to pour boiling water down the holes and it worked for him. I don't know if these jerks are just getting tougher but that didn't help me.
I have used corn meal with great success! Sprinkle it on and around the mound x right before a light rain is really good - otherwise wet the mound slightly being careful not to disturb the mound. When they come out to gather food they take the meal back into the mound and when eaten, the meal continues to swell and eventually suffocates, maybe even explodes the ants.

I’ve read that adding a bit of borax to the Jiffy Cornbread Mix makes them happy for a very short time indeed.
