You're asking about an underground sprinkler system?

Do you know if there are any sprinkler heads attached already, or is it just the lines/pipes that are underground?

Have you tried turning the system on to see if you can detect where the topsoil/grass/rocks are getting wet? If nothing seems to be wet, then it could be that the heads have all been capped off.

if the irrigation lines have any metal on them, a metal detector might find them, if the system is plastic....find the primary source of water and work outward.
