Our previous homeowner sided our log cabin with a vinyl siding that had a boxed channel to go around the log cross-members.I’m sorry I’m not sure what it’s called, maybe your contractor or siding provider could explain it better. Here’s a picture of the house side where you can see the boxy edges where the timbers cross
