My ceiling sheet rock is cracking and pulling away. Help!

The sheet rock is nailed directly to the trusses and the edge of the sheet rock is not close enough to the truss to screw it back in. Are there home made or aftermarket stringers I can use to screw the ceiling to ?

I think it would be better to address the cause now than try to cover up. It is not common for drywall to pull away from joists above for no reason. Drywall needs to be removed and see why this is happening. If there is a problem in the attic it could affect the roof. If there is a floor above that floor may have problems. If you are unable to do yourself get a referral to a handyperson. Use porch.com or Angies list or whatever referral service you have locally. Hope this helps

Thanks Linda ! It is common for the ceilings in my neighborhood to have been nailed directly to the roof trusses and they are loosing their grip over the last 20+ years. A corner is sheet rock is pulling away and only one side of the corner has any support of a truss, but the adjacent sheet is almost 90% under that truss so I don't think there is enough room to get a screw to bite into into the truss. I'm thinking I'll have to add some support to screw in to.

I am having a difficult time understanding. The ceiling is pulling away from the wall? The drywall is supposed to be screwed directly to the ceiling truss. A "stringer" is a stair part.

If your structure is moving and tearing the drywall apart, repairing the structure is the only solution. There is no "add-on" that will fix it.

If I have interpreted your question incorrectly, please let me know and we will try to help.

Yup, stringer was wrong term. A corner of ceiling sheet rock is separating at a seam ~3' in from a wall and starting to drop. I don't think I can just screw it to the truss because the adjacent sheet is 90% under that truss. No room for the sagging sheet to get a bite and the other side of the corner is 90 deg from the truss. Doesn't even look like they used tape before shooting popcorn. I am thinking I'll need to add some sort of support between the trusses to screw the sagging portion to. Hope that paints a better picture.
