Need help identifying bug on plants

Hi to all,
I have a large growing plant outside that grows up a trellis.
It did fine last year but now it and one next to it have something that is eating and destroying it?
I am adding pictures. Any help and advice on what to spray it with would be appreciated. Thank you so much!

Is there an state extension service nearby ? if so bag up a cutting and take it to them for advice,
Woops didn't mean to end there. You can also bag and take to a local nursery and speak with their master gardener. With something like this its next to impossible to determine what your dealing with through online pictures , but most nurseries will be happy to help. Good luck and happy gardening .
