Small ponds-I want one to fit in a small space, tips?

I used a livestock watering tank, then lined it with rocks and did the outside in plants. You can get them in all sizes.

Just don't try to make a small pond in a corner or something look 'natural'. It won't work. Go with an obviously man made look. Way more successful. Good luck

Beth's advice to use livestock watering tanks is good. They are both sturdy and cheap compared to preformed pond tanks. They can be found most often in round to oval shapes. I recommend plastic over metal for longevity. The smallest one I've seen was 30" across, 14" deep and holds 25 gallons. It was $35 at Tractor Supply. This is large enough for one "dwarf" water lily, or up to 3 emergent or floating plants.

Make sure, especially with small containers, that the pond is shaded at least half of the day. If the water gets too hot the plants and fish will suffer and probably die. After your plants have settled in you should add a couple of goldfish or minnows to eat mosquitoes. A small fountain can be nice, but water lilies like still water, so use other water plants if you want a fountain.
