Following this for answers since I have the same issue. Ants ”bubble” up by the thousands, in big piles. So gross! I have tried ant killers but that doesn’t get rid of the nest under the patio. I have also sprayed nematodes for ants but it only slowed them down for a very short time. My patio is a poured cement slab about 5 inches deep and 10x10 feet. There is no lifting that thing. Would love to get the original owner here to get rid of it, haha.

Hi there, I've heard that sprinkling corn meal around will kill the ants without hurting anything else.

I once lived in a newly built apartment that had apparently been built over an ant metropolis. Here's what worked to kill the nests. I made a tasty treat of peanut butter, white sugar, and borax (the kind you find in the laundry aisle). Roughly equal amounts of each. Add enough borax so it is crumbly, about the texture of corn meal. I use about two tablespoons of each ingredient, but I don't really measure it. Put it in a shallow container in a convenient location for them, and step back. The ants will come out to get this, and you need to steel your nerves, because you mustn't kill them at this point. They need to go home with it. It's take-out. Check it frequently. For a big nest, you may need to make more a couple times a day at first. They don't seem to like it stale, unfortunately. This isn't quick, but it does work.

Thanks for the recipe. I have used this inside the house and it works, now I need to deal with the outside invasion of huge armies that march out from under the large concrete slab that is the patio against the house. Well, it‘s actually more like geysers bubbling out of the ground, and they freak me out. Watched them coming up yesterday. A couple of weeks ago I watched the small black ants. Now there are the red ones with wings and they make some pretty large holes in the ground around the plants. These will last a couple of days and just when I think it’s done there is another infestation of different looking ants. It is always by the thousands, seriously. it happens every year.

I spray them and any mounds with carburetor cleaner. It attacks the exoskeleton. Kills them all.

sprinkle on then sweep/brush into the patio cracks some cheap cinnamon powder. They will avoid it and it's non toxic for us.
