Can I fire something for a ceramic picture in the oven at a 200 degree

An oven won't "fire" ceramics because it's not hot enough. What exactly are you wanting to do? -

200 degree, realitvly speakin, is not very hot. It would help your piece dry out. You need to chat with the ceramics place... -

I suggest you go to a vocational school or college where ceramics is taught. Most of them should allow you to put a single item or two in their kiln to fire it. These kilns get to thousands of degrees. You might look online for firing ceramics. What type of clay are you using? -

at the ceramic place there is green ware...it’s items where the clay for the ceramic piece have not been baked, and it needs to air dry slowly so it doesn’t crack. Once it’s dryer, you can paint the greenware with special paints...they might not look like the color you want, but once subjected to heat the color will change to what you picked out. or you can get items that are ready to be painted, ie already clean no mold marks, already fired, and can use acrylic paints, and spray with a clear coat.-

DFM - Thank you so much for your reply. Greenware was what I was trying to think of. My husband and I took a ceramic class years ago. I knew we picked out what we wanted to do and worked with it there and then they fired it for us. Someone had told me a long time ago that you could paint on a mug and fire it in the oven overnight at 200 degrees - Thanks so much for your information. I am going to try to add some Scripture pictures in our memorial garden at church. Wish me luck Shirley

At one time there were mugs that came with markers to decorate the mugs, and yes they were put in a slow oven, 200 to dry. They came from a novelty magazine, they didn’t hold up well to be washed. I haven’t seen them in ages.
