Rusty water- Any suggestions?

Hi, I am having rust coming out of both the hot and cold water supply lines on my clawfoot tub. None of the rest of the fixtures have this problem. The house had new plumbing installed a few years ago. Someone suggested it may be the nipples. Any suggestions?

    do you have well water?

I might try the dissolve it trick of putting CLR in a plastic bag over the faucet(s) so the liquids' forced into the faucet, and attach with a rubber band and leave on for a day. Then try running some hot water and see if it clears up.

Thank you, but I would be afraid of the CLR ruining the chrome finish.

It's possible somewhere in the supply lines going to the faucet black malleable pipe was used instead of galvanized/copper pipe. Water sits in the pipe and forms a rust film that is released when the faucet is turned on. Black malleable pipe is generally use for gas and not for potable water. Check the water lines to make sure they are silver colored and not black. If they are black they need to be replaced to solve your problem.
