I want to remove my popcorn ceiling.

I want to remove my popcorn ceiling. First off, I have read to scrape it off dry and use a shop vac to clean up. I've also read to wet it with a sprayer lightly and then scrape off. What is the best option? Once that is complete I need to decide the easiest way to finish the ceiling. Do I need to prime and paint the ceiling, then add a texture? What is the easiest texture (knock down)? What is the process for that? I plan to do a small bathroom first and if it goes well, keep going. Love to hear your advice and ideas....

You may want to test for asbestos, especially if your in an older home.some popcorn ceilings contain it. The water will help with the dust. Drywall mud like substance is used to add texture to the wall, it tends to disguise the taping that joined dry wall panels...it requires a hopper and a sprayer. If it’s a small area, you might find a spray can used for patching, you need to wait for the muding to be bone dry then prime and paint.
