I have an old gas station I was thinking of using state maps like wall paper to cover the very old and tired wood paneling. I was thinking of using mode podge for the adhesive for the maps and top coat the maps once they are on the wall. would that work OK?

It would work. But I would use spray adhesive.

Right apply spray adhesive to back of the maps, hang each map on wall, (use a bit of painters tape at corners to hold until adhesive is dry, remove the tape). Then top coat with some sort of lacquer to seal the maps from dirt & dust. Good luck with that. Sounds interesting.😉

Absolutely, however, polymer will work just as well.

Using a rubber brayer to remove air bubbles and to get the paper as flat as possible against the backing, is recommended.
