Love the unique rugs from West Elm - hate the prices! Here's my kitchen rug version for under $15! Total time spent about an hour - not including drying time.
Kitchen rug - sized 20"x44". I know - weird size, but it fits perfectly in front of my sink. Bought at Ollies Warehouse for $2.99
Materials used - blue painters tape (on hand item - normally $3 ish) and Rust-oleum Fabric & Vinyl in flat black. This is actually for cars. Cost was $6.39 at True Value - on sale - it's normally $8.99.
I put the painters tape on the rug where I wanted the pattern to show. Protected my cruddy-looking deck with newspapers. (Project for another day)
Spray painted the outside edge first. I didn't want to run out of paint before I got to the edge (which has happened before - oops)
First coat complete.
Closer look at the first coat - a lot of the tan is showing through the black.
The instructions on the can say to use several light coats, and that you can do each coat 2 minutes apart. In my case, I did the first coat in the morning before work, the second when I got home, and the 3rd the next morning. This is what it looks like after 3 coats. Glad I was happy with how it looked because I emptied the can just as I finished hitting up the edge again.
I gave the last coat 30 minutes to dry, then it was time to take off the painter's tape.
Looking pretty good! Yes - you can still see a bit through the black, but this is in bright sunshine. In my kitchen, this will not be noticeable.
In place right in front of my kitchen sink. Very happy with how this one came out!
