How to do white paint & rub off look.

Use any acrylic, water based paint ... in other words, regular indoor household paint or craft paint sold at any hobby store or at your local dollar store (pound store if you live in the U.K.). If you’re wanting a white-washed type of look, one coat might be enough but if you are going from dark wood to white, you might need two. Sand down in areas where you want the look of “wear and tear”. If the white paint is “too bright” looking for your taste and you want a duller white, apply an antique glaze as the final step. I use a cheap product (from Walmart) called FolkArt Antiquing Finish. My bottle is quite old so it might not be known as that anymore. If you can’t find a product called Antique Finish, you can simply buy a cheap bottle of craft paint (dollar or pound store) in a brown color, such as Burnt Umber or Raw Umber and rub (or paint) that on then quickly wipe off with a clean piece of cheesecloth or rag. Wipe off more if you just want a hint of an antique look. Most hobby stores such as Michael’s sell small bottles of an antique finish; you should find it anywhere. If too expensive, just buy a bottle of brown craft paint (about $2 at your local dollar store).
