Are you wanting to paint it? Or to restain?

First you need to remove all the old paint or stain then sand before doing anything else.

If youre restaining then you want to choose your stain And give it a couple of coats of stain.

Then seal it with a polyethurethene or lacquer or even a wax finish.

if you’re painting you’ll want to prime then paint .

    Good Luck☘️!

I love DIY projects, but arthritis in my back makes some projects impossible for me. I'm sooo glad "Chalk paint" is a fairly new product. The colors are fairly limited, but there are several companies that have their own brand and color palette. My daughter repurposed a dresser by staining the top a dark cherry wood color, and used an off white chalk paint on the rest of the dresser. Chalk paint requires just a little prep.....cleaning first and just light sanding to rough the surface. She did the main paint painted dresser and stained top in one day. Chalk paint looks very flat, but it can be waxed (with a tinge of color if desired) or a sateen poly finish coat. She changed out the drawer knobs and pulls with a variety of styles on the one dresser. It looks great and better than new (in my opinion). I wish I had some pictures.
