Refinishing Wooden Slat Patio Chairs

One of my favorite things is taking old furniture and giving it new life! It's so rewarding to make something look new again with a fresh coat of paint or upcycle it into something with a new purpose.
I bought a pair of old patio chairs at a garage sale and turned them into pretty seating for my patio!
The first step was disassembling both chairs. The wood slats are attached with screws and nuts, so I simply twisted those off.
Then I covered the metal frames of each chair with two coats of white spray paint.
I salvaged most of the original wooden slats and covered them with a coat of mold killing primer to seal the wood and protect it from further damage.
Some of the slats were cracked and beyond repair, so I took those to my local lumberyard and had them cut me new replacements out of cedar wood. They cut them right to size for me so I didn't need to get out a saw! I used an original slat as a template for drilling holes on both ends of the new slats for the screws.
I used a roller brush to coat all of the wooden slats with a durable outdoor paint.
The old screws were rusty so I purchased new screws and nuts to reattach the wooden slats to the metal frames once the paint had dried.
This project took me a day to complete and did require investing in new lumber, hardware and paint but was still much more affordable than purchasing brand new patio furniture!
I love the way these chairs look on my patio all decked out for summer relaxing and entertaining! I added aqua cushions to the chairs to complete the makeover.
Such a great way to give new life to a pair of chairs that would probably have otherwise ended up in the landfill. Thrifty makeovers like this are my favorite projects!
