Most every year, I (Vicki) volunteer to decorate a table at my church’s Mother’s Day Tea. This year was no exception. We were given a list of requirements for the table which included a centerpiece featuring the use of light. Ideally, we were to use a candelabra. What? Who has one of those? Not me. I wanted to be true to the requirements so I went in search of a candelabra or candelabra type holder during my weekly Saturday yard sale run. I thought I had a good lead at an estate sale but was too late as it had already been purchased. Now what?

I decided to use what I had on hand to create a centerpiece utilizing my Phillips Hue Go portable smart light. The Hue Go will light for up to three hours once charged. I figured that was just about right to stay lit for the duration of the tea.
For this project, you're going to need the bottom part of a cheese box (about 11 1/2" in diameter) which forms the foundation for the centerpiece. You'll also need a glass globe (mind was about 10" wide at the opening), silk flowers, hot glue, wire cutters, spray paint, and a Phillips Hue Go.
I used 6 bunches of silk hydrangea. The flowers are cut apart from the stems. Don't cut individual flowers, they need to remain in clusters. Cut off the leaves as well.
The first step is to turn the cheese box over and paint. I chose this copper color paint. Let this dry before moving onto the next step.
Start hot gluing the clusters of flowers towards the top of the box. You'll want them to extend past the top. The clusters can touch but don't try to fill every space in at this point.
Once flowers are glued around the perimeter, go back and fill in with more flower clusters and leaves so that the glued stems are hidden.
To assemble the centerpiece turn the Hue Go on and select the color scheme you want. Since my flowers are purple, I had the light move through pinks to purple, place the Hue Go on the center of the cheese box.
Add the glass globe over the Hue Go making sure it is centered on the cheese box.
I added some green moss, but it can be left without anything at the bottom.
The centerpiece looked great on the table. One of the good things about this type of arrangement is it can be changed to match a holiday, special occasion, or season just by changing out the flowers and lighting color pattern.

The cost for this will vary based on what you have and what you have to buy. I didn't buy anything extra for this as I used what I had. The cost estimate would be if you had to buy everything.
