What's the best way to re-do old cabinet hardware?

I decided to repaint my old cupboards at the cottage, and when I looked into buying new hardware it was going to cost me more then $300! I was thinking I could fix the appearance of the old ones. They are still in good shape.

Can you remove the hardware?
I’ve used Rustoleum metallic spray paint with great results. It comes in many colors and holds up well. I’ve also changed hardware into “wrought iron“, which looked really nice. Spray a few light coats and, if you want them really shiny, you can finish off with a coat or two of a clear coat.
It partly depends on what they’re made of. No matter what, though, take them off and give them a good hour soak in vinegar/ detergent water. The backs of pulls are often cruddier than we’d l8ke to admit. Scrub with a nail brush, rinse and let them dry.
Assuming they’re metal, spray paint with appropriate Paint. If they’re shiny, first rub with a very fine sandpaper to give the paint a hold.
I've cleaned and spray painted lots of pulls. Put them in the dishwasher to clean them well, buff with plain steel wool, then spread them outside on a piece of cardboard to spray paint. A clear top coat makes the paint last longer. Use several light coats of paint rather an a heavy coat, which tends to produce "runs".
