I received this little set of drawers from a girlfriend who’s mother was moving out of the house she had lived in all her married life. Her father who had passed many years ago had made it for his wife. I knew I had to do something very special to bring it back to life. The wall unit I had picked up a while back at a goodwill store. They were both the same width, so why not make them matching wall unit?
Here is the finished project! Sorry the shelves are not displayed hanging above the drawers but I have no wall space left!!!
The two mismatched pieces await the transformation!
I removed the handles from the dresser as well as the knobs from the drawers. The drawer runners had fallen off or were very loose so out came the gorilla glue and brad nailer for a very easy fix. As you can see the previous DIYer had started painting the shelf unit and gave up, I could see why because there are a lot of nooks and corners to get around, I’m sure that’s why it ended up at the goodwill waiting for me! I also sanded all the pieces with my palm sander.
I gave all the pieces a good coat of primer as well as the legs which came off easily. Something was missing.......
Bling! How fun to choose new hardware to brighten up tired furniture! I decided on crystal drawer knobs for the wall unit and chrome look pulls for the set of drawers. Chalk paint in Chiffon Cream was for the final coat of paint for my pieces. I also wanted a little hidden surprise when you opened the drawers so I picked up some Seaside satin spray paint.
In order to paint only the inside of the slots for drawers and the inside and sides of drawers I used good old food film wrap and painters tape to hold it in place.
It took a little time to prep for this but it was worth the outcome! I think I may be using Spray paint for further wood projects!
Why not do these drawers too?? I used the same procedures as I did for the wall unit to prep for spray painting of the dresser drawers.
It took a few more coats to get the finish I wanted.
Of course the ends of the front legs were brass and the hardware that I choose for this chest of drawers were chrome I did what anyone else would, I spray painted them with Rust-oleum bright coat metallic finish! They turned out awesome.
This was such a fun and rewarding project to finish. I hope you enjoy as well!😊
