What can I use for drawer knobs and pulls?

Linda

I picked up a dresser and mirror for free! Ten drawers means a lot of knobs and handles. I'd like to do something different. I've heard of using rope and painting wooden knobs. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Bend and drill holes in spoons If you don't like the bowl of the spoon, you can cut the bowl off and use only the handles. Also wooden spools, you can get them in craft stores or online real reasonable. Children's wooden ABC blocks make cute pulls too.

You can tie the rope into knots instead of having a single loop.

Champagne corks can be used as pulls by drilling from inside. Please send us pictures when you decide.

(Donna, you always have such creative ideas.) Linda, it really depends where you you plan on using your dresser. The finish you choose for your rehab will also dictate your pulls. Once that decided, start looking at everything you see as a possible pull. I'm also a firm believer in looking for other creative people's ideas. Pinterest is my friend

You can use odd bits of vintage style jewellery by glueing them onto half a wine cork and screwing from inside the drawers/doors

Place a piece of paper over the holes on your dresser and with a pencil, do a "rub" drawing. Keep this measurement in your billfold and then shop for mis-matched handles at thrift stores, junk stores, flea markets, etc. Just place the ones you find on your sheet to see if they match! Instead of worrying with a tape measure, I often make patterns. For example, when I wanted baskets for my freezer, I masured my shelves, took a large garbage bag and cut it the size of my shelf. When I went to WalMart to find wire baskets, I laid the pattern in the bottom of the basket and sat them on it! I wrote the height in a marker on the pattern. A small pattern is a lot easier than trying to work with a ruler at the store!

In my adventures i've used dice and ive done rope handles but i put a 3" piece of pvc for the handle then glued a section of bamboo fencing on/around the pvc. I guess it also helps to know what your going to do with the dresser or colors/style. Good luck, you've got some great ideas from everyone so far!

Thanks everyone! I got some great ideas for future projects from all! I've decided to use twigs/sticks. I'm going to use branches for curtain rods and I think this might tie in. I'll post before and after pics. Again, thanks for all your ideas and feedback. It is much appreciated. :)
