Cyndi Neumann
by Cyndi Neumann
These are taking over my garden bed, I have not yet cleaned up for this year but I want to plant some more flowers and don;t know what this is? There is A LOT of them and none are blooming if they will eventually?
Can anyone tell me what plant/flower this is or will be?
I show several photos of it as it is everywhere in my garden beds.
Photos are from several places Thanks! Smiles, Cyndi

Impatiens capensis/Jewelweed. It will bloom about July and the Hummingbirds love it!

Thanks so very much, I do remember seeing this last year, I must have planted it not knowing how it will spread. It is beautiful when blooming, I will just thin it our and move some to another location. Smiles, Cyndi

I found this also helps with the stem juice helping poison ivy. I better keep this plant somewhere, but, there are thousands it seems I pulled up yesterday. I bet it Will be finding this for years.. it is even under our deck inter-vines with my ferns.. Smiles, Cyndi

I'm in NC, too, and I get these things by the thousands, epecially along my creek banks. But they don't flower. Fortunately, they are super easy to pull so I don't go nuts with digging them up. But I can't seem to control them, and I didn't plant them. They showed up about 4 years ago, and love it so much here they keep coming back and bringing all their friends. I've looked at a lot of photos of Jewelweed, and am not convinced that's what these are. Nor are they bryophyllum pinnatum.

I was told it's wild impatiens and the juices are also supposed to help mosquito bites

Impatiens capensis aka Jewelweed is a native plant. Orange blooms in late summer are relished by Hummers and pollinators alike. In 5a it prefers damp soil and part shade. Part of the "original landscape" , find a place for it and let it prosper. Trouble free.
