Suggestions for repurposing heavy, custom drapes?

Guest bedroom in 'new' house has drapes that are floor length, dark brown/with narrow blue , vertical stripes. White thermal lining. Window is almost 72" sq. Sturdy rod and rings, also dark brown. They're obviously expensive, custom drapes, but not my color or style. I've reversed them to the white side for stamping, painting, etc. but don't know what to do with the margins (i.e: hems) of fabric that are showing. The drapes are heavy, and I'd prefer to work on them in place rather than take down, again (which I did to reverse them) . Room will have bright, bold colors: Banana yellow walls, white woodwork painted pic frames of purple, turquoise, tangerine, lime. Want room to be cheerful. ALL SUGGESTIONS WELCOME. THANKS!

You could add an embellishment along the hem line to hide it, like a thick ribbon or trim or rope.

I am thinking you could take out the hems and margins and turn the to the new "back side" -- wipe stitch or use fabric glue, maybe. Or you can paint them (the hem and margins) Try an inconspicuous place first -- Annie Sloan (or similar chalk paint) works great on fabric (if you want it to not feel like paint, sand between layers of paint) Or use some coordinating "cheerful" fabric to match the other decor and glue over these areas. You can pull the ironing board close to the window to work on the bottom and lower edges -- that would make it easier no matter which way you go! Good Luck! Will enjoy seeing what others suggest!

I will probably do a combo of paint and glue-on trim--if something can be hot glued or painted, that's for me! Love the ironing board trick. Thank.

Cover all or partially with wide ribbon. Hot glue or spray glue in place.
