Can I add glaze to my existing paint?

I have a lot of my exterior high quality trim dark brown paint left. I'm wanting to paint my garage door to look like wood. It is a rust solid color and I thought I would mix the paint I have left over with some water or glaze to make it more like a stain. Would this work? I'm also planning to coat it with a clear coat when done for lasting effect.

If you want the rust color to show through--then I would water down the paint OR just use a glaze over the solid rust color and forget watering down the paint. If you don't want the rust color to show through then I would just paint the garage door brown. As for putting on a clear coat make sure you use a marine spar varnish for outside. Hot sun on a garage door will make any clear coat--over time--peel--and then you will have a mess to redo.

I would mix with glaze and get a wood graining tool.... here is the technique, use your light paint and run the graining tool over it so the dark will show as the grain.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liQuCa1pyWA you could also buy some real dark brown gel stain and make the door appear a darker wood

My garage door is metal and already has the wood grain on it. All I want to do is brush a darker finish on it. My questions is....Can I add a gel or glaze to my dark brown paint so the rust color of the garage door can show through?
