What can I do about poorly laid Gladstone- its a mess!

I got stung by a sly guy who claimed to know how to lay Gladstone and left me with a disgusting mess. I need someone who does this on a regular basis to advise if my patio can be saved. The biggest problem is the grout. It did not harden and quite a lot has washed away. There are places that are not level and some of the stones shed the top layer of the stone. I k ow the grouting must all be removed but can it be saved? Please help me. I'm in my late 70's and don't think I can do the work myself.

I am so sorry this happened to you--most of us have had a problem with a contractor who did a poor job. Do you have any neighbors you can ask for recommendations of good contractors? This kind of job is done by masons and landscapers. If there is a building supply/brickyard in your area, you might ask them for the name of a good contractor.

You can contact homeadvisors.com or thumbtack.com. You explain your needs, they vet the contractor who bids on your job. Sending them a photo helps too.

    Good luck

  • Assuming you mean flagstone. So so sorry, this happened to you and it gets my goat for those that take advantage of others. Google or pull out the good old yellow pages and let your fingers do the walking. You need a licensed landscaper or a stonemason. If you are on Nextdoor.com, that is a great place to obtain a recommendation. Here is how to hire a contractor.
