It is already painted burgundy and I would like to redo the brick and possibly the mantle as well.

You’ll need to use special paint meant to take the heat of a fireplace for the brick.

The mantel seems to fade into the wall. It all depends on your decor and color choices. Is there original wood under the paint on the mantel? That would be nice.

Also, I hope you have a firescreen!

I painted my red brick fireplace white as well as the hearth, which was also brick. It made such a difference and brightened up that side of the room. I was surprised it made so much difference. You won't be sorry.

I would also paint the brick white or off-white. I would also paint the area around the brick an accent color (or strip it and stain it ) . Then paint the top of the mantel the same color as the brick.

If this was my house....😊....I would leave mantle white (freshen if it needs but still white) paint brick surround with a heat resistance paint also in white, paint the floor tile in a neutral gray or black maybe. You could also match the color of the of the floor brick with the surround brick. Then I would go a shade or two darker on the walls for that white mantle to pop. If you have the funds I’d replace the floor altogether with new material. See how my walls are a bit darker?

This is a household of Steelers fans from Michigan tho! My husband was born there 😊 Paint is Sherwin Williams. My room is very big tho with lots of windows so it might be too dark for your room.

I would paint the brick and the surround one of the colors of the hearth tiles - your walls are a neutral ivory and the tiles are earth tones - so no white..... beige maybe. But I still like one of the tile colors.

Go for one of the colours in the tile hearth for the brick. Use same colour in groves and mantel shelf.
