How to clean a very thick grease on a kitchen extractor fan device?

Oh my goodness Dvj19740! I did this exact thing just last week and while it was a success, it was a lot of work and fumes. The product I used is called “Zep Fast 505 Industrial Cleaner & Degreaser”. This stuff works, but be ready to ventilate the house and get the kids and pets out for the day. No joke, it’s powerful stuff. Wear gloves, a face mask, eye protection and be prepared to go over the same spots over and over. I believe we purchased it at either Home Depot or Lowes. The biggest piece of advice that I could give that I haven’t already spoken about is to be patient and allow this stuff time to do its job. The packaging says to wait 1-2 minutes, but I would leave it on as long as possible before wiping, scrubbing, rinsing, etc. It makes a huge mess and if you’re willing and able to temporally remove your range hood vent (ours was easy to remove and reinstall), I would advise to tackle it where you can take it outside and where the product isn’t going to make a drippy mess on your stove top, counters, etc. Its a lot of work, but if you stick with it, it’s totally worth it! I have the same problem in my dusty house. I use a cheap orange oxi cleaner that is only a couple of dollars for a quart spray bottle. I spritz it on and let what stays on it for a minute, then wipe off. There may be a couple of stubborn spots that may need more scrubbing. This cleaner works really well on lots of different things. I was very impressed with how well the cheap stuff works. I got it at Home Depot to use on a boat we were renovating to get all the mildew and grime off the vinyl .
A soft scrub brush, microfiber cloths and Dawn (blue) dish detergent.
Blue dawn dish soap and water
Oven cleaner, softscrub, or make a baking soda paste if you can get it to stay on it over night. I use baking soda paste in my oven over night and scoop it out next morning

Try half white vinegar and half 91% isopropyl alcohol. That is my go to cleaner for just about everything. Just pour equal amounts in a spray bottle and go for it.
