I rent an apartment with a small (4x8) deck. How can I add privacy?

This mini deck is on the west side of the apartment & it gets the hot afternoon sun. Would like some ideas for privacy & shade that my landlord would approve.

patio umbrella- you can get a stand for it that you weight with water or sand to keep it in place. you can add Velcro pieces to the umbrella to attach a small tarp to one side of the umbrella.
