I have 6 dogs, 6 cats a canary and a dragon, my yard is very pet friendly!
For a dog friendly yard, it's best to keep the plants at a minimum, but shade at a max. Plant trees that will shade or a pergola. Consider whether you want running water or just drinking water access. Your gates should be self-closing and secure. You can have real grass or fake, but if you use the fake make sure it's put down correctly. Good luck.
