How to take perfectly fine veneer of a table.

I got this table for free. My vision was to use java gel on the outside and paint the table white inside. This veneer even sanded did not take the java gel. Any suggestion how to take the veneer off? Or any other ideas to make this table a focal point? Thanks!

  Thank you! I looked at this video before and tried to take off the veneer with a knife. It does not work. There is no way I can insert a knife. This veneer is in perfect condition 😣

you should try a heat gun for those places that are difficult to get off. if it is in good to great condition, why not just stain it?

  I tried to stain it. It did not take the stain. I sanded in and it did not make any different.

Put a wet towel on it and iron right in top of the wet towel. It will peel right off

  If it's wood veneer it does take stain. Have used lower quality wood veneers and stained them to look like expensive wood. This has been done for hundreds of years.

  Most veneers are made from plastic that's made to look like wood. On older furniture they used real wood but not so much anymore. Especially table tops, the plasticy stuff takes more of a beating, but it's a pain if you're planning on changing it at all. Youll have to peel it all off or just paint it instead

Is it a wood veneer or a plastic veneer made to look like wood. Also can be a photo of wood grain over MDF, poplar, or lower grade wood.
