What paint and color will work on veneer type kitchen cabinets?

I am in a 30 yr old mobile home. The kitchen cabinet doors are wood but the cabinets appear to be some type of veneer. What type of paint will work on this? Would white work with an off white wall color? I am not going to paint the walls.

I think white is great. If you use a degreaser to clean them and I personally used liquid sand paper and also Original Kilz to prime them, ran short and used Behr primer and the Kilz won, hands down!!! Then I used regular Home Depot white paint (,those have changed by now), used one of those tiny sponge rollers and wow!! Came out more than wonderful.
All white cabinets would make the off white walls look dirty and get lost. Lower cabinets a light or medium grey and uppers white. It would force the eye to notice the cabinets and not focus on the walls. Get some different paint swatches and tape them to the cabinets, live with them for a few days and see what you like. Paint color changes between day and night.
Make sure they are clean and dry. Remove the doors and hardware. Mark the doors and cabinets with tape where they go. Lightly sand the doors and cabinets to remove any gloss and roughen the surface for paint with 120- to 220-grit sandpaper. Use a tack cloth or damp rag to remove dust after sanding. Prime with a stain blocking primer like Zinsser 123, KILZ,or BIN and have it tinted to the color of the top coat. This will prevent dark or stained surfaces from showing through the top coat. Acrylic, or water-base, paints are low-fume and clean up easily with water. Alkyd, or oil-base, paints require good ventilation because the paint contains solvents that can irritate your lungs and make you feel sick. Alkyd options require mineral spirits for cleanup, but they provide a hard, durable paint finish. Whichever you use, buy the best-quality paint you can afford for a lasting kitchen cabinet finish. Seal with at least three coats with a water based polyurethane. Use a small foam roller and foam brush for a smooth finish.
The type of paint is what is crucial.... the paint COLOR could be anything you want.
