Keep it simple. If you don't have a green thumb, don't put out potted plants. If the porch is in need of paint or other repairs, do those first before adding any "fluff". Sometimes just keeping it neat and tidy is the best appeal.

Also, a seasonal wreath on the door for a simple update. A pretty coat of paint on your front door brightens everything up. I also keep a large planter on my small front porch that I plant some pretty flowers in each spring. Then when they die back later in the fall, I put some mums in there (usually a sunny yellow). Less than $10 for the flowers each year. It can also hold a small Christmas tree or something similar in the winter.

Paint the door a nice color, get a new welcome mat, perhaps a new porch light, house numbers and mailbox, that sort of thing. Get a really nice planter and switch out inexpensive seasonal plants from a big box store or nursery.

Clean everything- powerwash the front of the house, the steps, etc. If there is anything that needs paint to freshen it do it. Add something colorful like the door or a porch sign saying welcome, etc. Add plants/flowers/bushes if you can.

    Deb,

Please post a picture of your front porch as it is now. That way more Hometalkers will be able to see what you have to work with, and will be able to offer realistic suggestions that are specific to your individual situation.

I live on a short street of about 20 houses. Of those that have porches, no two are alike. Even the nine houses that were identical when they were built nearly 100 years ago. We need to see a picture.
