    Hi Deb,
    There are several ways you can distress aluminum. Click on the Wikihow link below to read about 3 different methods. I've also read that vinegar will turn it a gunmetal gray color and you can then use 0000 steel wool to adjust the final look. Wishing you the best.

    Aluminium doesn't really tarnish like other metals. What you could do with wire wheel it so you add some grooves to the aluminum and then paint it. Or before painting add some Elmers glue is small areas, which after painting would make the paint crackle like if it was old. Also after wire wheeling the surface and then you could add some black and brown paint to it and rub it off leaving the stuff in the markings.
