What to do with my back splash and counters? NOT doing my cupboards.

Here is my considered options: I am considering painting my current backsplash white...and the grout lines black to mock the look of sub way tiles...and then painting the counters black. OR....considering a grey counter. I have put up poster boards to mimic the looks..OR...how about doing a 'whitewash' for the back splash...with some grey and black thrown in? Or would that not work..because it is tile?
BUT look at that awful FLOOR..oh my!! And I currently am not doing my cupboards....Can NOT get on the painted bandwagon...May stain them 'darker' one day.
Now I just need some reader opinions.....so "HIT" me with your best shots...PLEASE !!!!
I am in the current process of putting greys throughout my house...the dining room which is attached to the kitchen...will shortly have a black painted ceiling and a grey cove with grey walls....black and red accessories. My house has red everywhere....The living room...which is on the other side of the kitchen...has a grey couch...black, grey and red area rug.

I like the grey countertop better. I had a black countertop and did not like it. it was too dark for me. now have quartizite in a white blend. Grey would look good with the painted backsplash.

Hello; and thank you for your reply...as I value opinions. I edited my post....I came across something...and wondered if it might work..so I thought I would throw it out to you too....a white wash look..with some black and grey thrown in the mix for the back splash..??? Or no because it is not brick? Thoughts?

    Hi Laura,

I love the look of black, white & red. As a matter of fact for years I had a white house with black shutters & doors and red flowers. As a counter, I love the black look, but I don't know how hard it would be to keep it looking nice. I think that is something that you're going to have to explore before making a final decision. Wishing you the best.

I think that it would work if YOU like the look. You said you're planning a subway tile look and I think adding some grey and black could look fantastic. Try it out like you're doing with other parts to see how you like it. :)

I love whitewash on brick! Not sure about the black & grey but it sounds like a great possibility, if you just add a subtle amount of each. Could you try a small area to Get an idea? It might look good with just a whitewash & the grey countertop.

White wash is cool look, it’s not exclusive to brick.
