How to grow orchid

Lucky you! Tropical orchids attach themselves to trees and continually absorb the moisture from the air in their roots. Since we typically put them in pots, it's important that their roots stay moist.

1. Buy orchid potting mixture
2. I combine the mixture with a bit of peat moss to make sure the roots stay moist.
3. Water deeply once a week.
4. Mist during the week with water.
5. Fertilize once a month with fish emulsion. Do not add too much emulsion. The portions should be 1 part water to 1/8 fertilizer.
6. Never let an orchid sit in water. It will rot their roots.
7. Give them indirect light. Mine are in an east window that does not get the hot morning sun, but the bright light of the morning.

Some of my sprig orchids are quite old and the above method has worked great for me. Happy gardening!
