New roof installed in 2009 began to leak. Do not have money or the heart to replace a 9 year old roof. What is the best, clear roof sealant product? What application advice can anyone offer?

If you had a contract, it should say what the warranty is. 9 years is a short time to have a roof leak. I'd call the roofer who put your new roof up, and ask them what to do. There shouldn't be a charge, if your contract has a guarantee.

Roofer went out of business. We are on our own. Thanks, though

My roof is over 25 yeas old, and I had a leak in my bedroom.

A roofing contractor looked at it, and a couple nails had popped loose,

he fixed those, and now, no leak. We have had lots of rain and wind here

in Maryland for 2018. Have someone to take a look of it. Hopefully, it

will be an quick and easy fix.

The leak is around an exhaust pipe. I should have clarified this point. Thanks, though

Easy to repair a leak around a pipe. Get some roofing mastic (usually black and tar like) at a big box home improvement store. Get up on the roof and use a trowel or wide flat bladed tool to spread it thickly, tapering the edges out to blend with the shingles and up on the pipe about a couple inches. Be careful!!

Just get a roofer, or someone to put some sealer around it. I think they use some type of black stuff to seal it. Check at Lowes etc.

Sometime it is a called a black boot, thay they put around pipes. They dry rot, and need replaced.

    Good Luck

HomeAdvisor.com or Angieslist.com to get a list of reference checked and verified Roofing companies.... Get estimates, have the roof inspected, find and fix the problem ASAP.... it will only get worse the longer you wait.....

Look for paperwork on the Roof that was installed 9 years ago.... it could still be under warranty for materials and installation...... find the heart and make the effort.... your home's structural security may depend on it.

Check with Social Services, they have people that volunteer their services. If you have a leak, someone will come out to fix it free of charge. This is for seniors and low-income households. Call your town hall, and ask for their phone number, they should be able to help you

In my experience, EPDM Liquid butyl rubber is the best long lasting and cost effective sealant that has unique characteristics due to its chemical cross linking structure. It is a solvent based, one coat, primer free liquefied solvent based product that you can apply on your own. It is applicable for all types of roof damage providing a waterproof and airtight insulation due to its elastomeric nature and high adhesive properties giving you long term peace of mind as you will not need to replace it for further 15 to 20 years.
