When you have no more rust, just oil, season it by putting the oiled pan in the oven at low heat.

Once you have cleaned the rust off, a tablespoon of grease or oil rubbed on the skillet, then the skillet in the oven for 20 minutes, leaves a seasoned skillet. Never cook on High, wipe out the skillet after use, store with a paper towel between pans, and let it get black from use. It can certainly outlive you and possibly your grandchildren. ☺️

Hand wash only...those dishwashers pitted a pan of mine...yup did the same thing in my first apartment.
