Festive Frayed Napkins for July 4th and Summer BBQs!

Why buy cloth napkins when you can easily make your own? I bought some festive, summery red gingham fabric and made a bunch of napkins out of them for our upcoming summer parties. Find out how I did it!
Ok - this project is so easy that all I did was take my washed red gingham fabric and cut it into equal sized squares. I think 20 inch square makes a nice napkin.

Then - I made a zigzag stitch about a 1/4 to 1/2 from the edge. I don't have a serger and the zig zag gives it a more finished look. Took me about two minutes! Easy!

Then I just kept pulling strings from the edges to fray them. See how I did it in the picture above? You can also wash your fabric and that helps kinda fray the edges a little more.
I thin these turned out really pretty and the frayed edge gives them a casual, summer look. This works really well for upcoming July 4th!
I love this red gingham fabric!
Not only do these make great napkins, they make wonderful bread basket liners and chip basket liners on your buffet table.

Here's another quick tip and something I'm going to post about very soon! You can use a linen fabric and simple cut or rip your squares and the edges will be frayed for you. No need to sew! I love the casual look of washed linen napkins with a frayed edge.

I hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial! icon
