Can I tile a room in sections?

I have a living room, dinning kitchen combo condo with old floating floor on it. I want to remove it and put down tile with a wood look to it. I don’t have a garage to store furniture in while I do it. If I tile in sections should I wait until the end for grouting or do it as the tile section is set?

Do it one room at a time if you have too, but make sure you have enough to do the entire room if you intend using a colour.

Hello Connie Peters, Well, after reading your question and looking over your pictures I must say that in my opinion you have no alternative but to grout in sections --- 2 sections --- the living room being one section and the kitchen/dining area being the other section. With no place to store the furniture it would all have to be taken from one area of your home and placed into the other area while you tear up the floating floor, prepare for and lay the tile, then grout, and wait for the grout to dry and be cleaned off the tiles (so we're talking about a 3- 5 day process, at least). Then you'd have to do the other half by moving the furniture from the unfinished floor onto the finished DRY tiled area. I have no idea where your home's entrance door is located but it seems to me that if you only have one door, you will have to get a hotel room for a few nights while you are working on the second area of the floor and wait for the grout to dry and the tile to be cleaned before moving the furniture back into that lasat area. Good Luck Connie. Enjoy your new floor, and thanks for asking Hometalk what we think about the situation you have ;)

Grout the section as you go along. Any dust/dirt/particles that can get into the grooves can cause the grout to fail. Even cleaning/vacuuming may not get it all out waiting till the end. Just make sure all the grout is the same and you buy what you need. They are marked with a manufacturers batch run code so try to the same run code. The color will match. Get a different run code and the color may be slightly different.
