Hello,I would like to use plywood planks/slats for an efficient and inexpensive alternative to hardwood floors and their cost. How durable is this alternative flooring with everyday wear and tear and how long can they potentially last?
Thank you, Kim

I have a painted plywood floor in my upstairs bedroom, and an old hardwood plank hallway floor that is over one hundred years old. Of the two, my money is that the hardwood will still be going strong 50 years from now. I love the wear marks and grain. The plywood is okay, but, I plan on replacing it when I can. It is okay short term, but, as carefully as I did it, I doubt it will increase my home's value the way hardwood will, if I decide to sell.

Thank you Cynthia! I appreciate the response, It is only for my own pleasure (for the look and comfort that hardwood floors give me). I just love them but can not afford them at this time. If and when we ever sell our home I can see where I would need to replace them with hardwood or go back to a carpeting. I just don't want something that will start to break down too quickly or be so unsightly that it's not worth the time and effort. All the images I find look so wonderful, I just can not tell if they would be so great in person?

    Thank you again for sharing!

"Hardwood" is named that because it is not easily damaged by walking on it as would, say a pine board. If I wanted a pretty, durable floor, I would go to laminate because there is no nailing, no finishing out with coats of sealer and varnish and no bother to take up!

I have had laminate by Bruce down since 2005...13 years...and even with a big messy dog, it looks like t was put down yesterday! We put down the "quiet pad" and LOVE IT!!
